Each cylinder has a correct socket. If the child incorrectly places a cylinder, then the exercise cannot be correctly completed.

The important objective is that the children should be able to use each cylinder block successfully and they must be allowed the time they need to achieve this. Seriation of several objects can be a difficult exercise for very young children - but the seriation of the cylinders is assisted by the Directress's demonstrations and by the fact that it is easy to see if a particular cylinder is in the wrong socket.

 1 Invite the child to the lesson with enthusiasm. 2 Introduce the lesson as “This is called Replacing a Toilet Paper Roll”. 3 Carry it to the table gently and remark on putting it down without a sound. 4 With exaggeration Show the child how to tull the spindle to the side to make it smaller. 5 Tilt empty roll up and point out how the spindle fits into a hole. 6 Remove empty roll from the spindle and replace with full roll. 7 "We have to get the end in the hole it came out of, watch me” 8 Show holding spindle and pushing against spring, point at opposing hole and show it engaging. 9 Pull on taped roll to be sure it is engaged securely. 10 Say “lets put the empty roll back on for our next friend to take a turn” 11 Show child that was fun. Smile and offer a turn. 12 Carry work gently back to case or offer child to try.

This is a group presentation.

Discuss about what to do during snack or mealtime. Some schools provide each child with a tray and they will go to the Directress and the Directress will serve them. Some will have already prepared the food on trays, all ready on the table, one per child. Some schools encouraged children to help serve the food. Hence, the older ones helped served and the younger ones will have to be seated, place their hands on their lap and wait to be served. Remind them to say 'Thank you' when they are served. This is a good opportunity to reinforce hand washing before touching food.
