Preparation
The student needs to have worked with the golden bead material in the basic operations.
Presentation
1. Have small numerals laid out on rug on upper left side and felt on rug to the right.
2. Bring introduction tray for golden bead material to rug.
3. Take beads and numerals and say to child as you lay them on the felt:
- "This is 1 unit." "This says 1 unit."
- "This is 1 ten." "This says 1 ten."
- "This is 1 hundred." "This says 1 hundred."
- "This is 1 thousand." "This says 1 thousand."
4. Place the stamps fore each category below the felt. Tell child, "We can use these stamps in place of the beads."
5. Take stamps in you hand.
6. "I'm going to replace the golden bead with this disc."
