- Subtraction Chart A, a chart giving positive results only for numbers 1 to 18, taking away numbers 1 to 9.
- Slips on which are written all the subtraction combinations of 1 to 18.
Preparation
Presentation
- Directress shows the child how to use the Chart A.
- She takes out a slip, e.g. 9-3. First, find 9 on the top of the chart, and then find -3 on the right hand side.
- Place two fingers on the two numbers and move the fingers, sliding down and along until they meet 6.
- Record the answer.
- The child continues in this manner for all the slips.
Control Of Error
The structure of the chart provides the child with the correct answer.

Purpose
- To help the child learn and remember the subtraction tables up to 18.
