Preparation
Presentation
- Directress invites the child to build a triangle with the Short Bead Stair.
- Directress reads the first example on the work card, e.g. 9-3.
- Directress selects the 9 Bead Bar and then counts 3 beads from the right end. Cover the 3 beads and count the remainder left uncovered.
- Explain that 9-3=6. Directress then shows the child how to record the answer on the answer square.
Control Of Error
- The Short Bead Stair acts as a control of error because the quantities are fixed.
- The Summary of Subtraction tables makes it possible for the child to correct his own work.
