This is an introduction to the Wikisori project for visitors.

Wikisori (pronounced “wi-ki-soh-ree”) is a web-based, free content Montessori Album project built by Montessorians for Montessorians. The name Wikisori is a portmanteau (combination of words and their meanings) of the words wiki (a type of collaborative website) and Montessori.

Wikisori is written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world. Wikisori was created in 2008 and currently has 543 pages of content and 128,211 registered users.

Most of the content can be edited by anyone with access to the Internet and a Wikisori account, simply by clicking the edit link. Everyone is encouraged to contribute, as long as they do so within Wikisori's policies and guidelines and to an appropriate standard. Substandard or disputed information is subject to removal. Users need not worry about accidentally damaging Wikisori when adding or improving information, as other editors are always around to advise or correct obvious errors, and Wikisori's software is carefully designed to allow easy reversal of editorial mistakes.

Because Wikisori is an ongoing work to which, in principle, anybody can contribute, it differs from a paper-based Montessori Album in important ways. In particular, older content tends to be more comprehensive and complete, while newer content more frequently has significantly more errors and missing information. Users need to be aware of this to obtain valid information and avoid misinformation that has been recently added and not yet corrected or removed. However, unlike paper Montessori Albums, Wikisori is continually updated, with the creation or updating of content within seconds, minutes or hours, rather than months or years for printed content.
